Third Place in IPF Club Championship May 2018

Our Club   were awarded third place in Ireland in the Irish Photographic Federations Club Championships held in Mullingar in May. The club won three trophies,  winning overall third place in Ireland, and scored third highest in two categories, the  Colour Category  and Black and White (Mono) Category. Each of the categories consisted of  twelve photographs contributed by members of the club, and was representative of the contributions of the whole club. Reaching third place behind the Catchlight Club in Belfast and the Dundalk Camera Club, the  Drogheda Photographic Club has maintained its position as one of the most successful clubs in Ireland since its foundation in 1971.

IPF Approved Distinctions Advisory Workshop April 13th 2019

Drogheda Photographic Club will be running a Distinctions workshop in Millmount Cultural Quarter, Drogheda on Saturday 13th April 2019. The workshop starts at 10am and finishes at 5pm with a lunch break from 1pm to 2pm.  Three members of the IPF distinctions assessing panel will be present to give advice on panels at all levels, Licentiate, Associate and Fellowship levels.

Photographers attending for advice should bring along their proposed selected prints-10 for LIPF, 15 for AIPF and 20 for FIPF.  Participants should also bring along a selection of spare prints to be used if required.
Digital images will not be looked at.
Cost for participants with a panel is €40, observers without a panel €20.

10.45am : Licentiate panels advising
1pm-2pm:   Lunch.
2pm-5pm:   Associate and Fellowship panels advising.

Outline of Photographic Course January 2019

Photographic course outline

Introduction to  photography – composition, exposure and focus. Default and Auto camera settings. What aperture, shutter speed, film speed and exposure mean. Loading and organising captures on the computer. Projected images will be used to illustrate topics.

Night 1

Aperture, Shutter speed, film speed settings. Stops. When and how to over and underexpose.

Night 2

Focusing and depth of field. How to manage depth of field.

Saturday 1

Sat morning in Drogheda town – market, St. Peters,  Laurence gate, riverside

Night 3

Review  results of day trip. Revisit exposure and focus

Night 4

Cameras, lenses and filters.

Night 5

Saturday morning at Beaulieu, Baltray  or Mornington

Night 6

Review results of say trip. Flash, dynamic range, Hyperfocal distance

Night 7

Processing images on the computer using FastStone Viewer and Adobe Photoshop CS2. Both packages are free. Preferences and colour settings.  Photoshop tools and how to use them

Night 8

 Processing continued – crop, levels, Hue & Saturation and contrast using adjustment layers and masks. Saving images

Night 9

Sizing and sharpening. Printing and sending email attachments

Night 10

Review processing results. Troubleshooting
